Southampton v Hearts Empty
PostSubject: Southampton v Hearts   Southampton v Hearts EmptyThu Jul 30, 2009 3:44 pm

Southampton

Davis
Murty, Perry, Thomas, Harding
Lallana, Wotton, Gillet, Mills
Paterson, John

Bialkowski, Lancashire, James, Gobern, Thomson, Rasiak

Southampton 3 Heart of Midlothian 0

Saints started the game very brightly.
Corner forced. Mills whipped the ball in from the right, left footed.
Cleared. Only as far as Wotton, who hooked the ball over the advancing defence, back to Mills.
Mills adjusted quickly and sweetly flashed a half volley just over the bar.

From a Murty throw, Wotton again helped the ball forward, high in the air to John.
The Trinidad and Tobago hitman killed the ball instantly and held off all challenges.
Lallana was quick to collect the shielded ball from John, and ghost in from the right.
Lallana then arrowed a measured shot inside the upright.

Saints created another very good opening.
After some neat exchanges, they worked the ball to the supporting Murty.
Murty crossed low to the near post, where Mills arrived, but couldn't hit the target.

Mills pounced on a misunderstanding, intercepting the ball 35 yards out.
Mills advanced to the edge of the D, and drilled a shot straight at the keeper.

Davis had to get down smartly to his left and parry away a dipping shot.

Paterson was felled on the box edge.
Harding curled a good ball to the far post.
Rasiak drifted in behind the rearguard and touched home with the outside of his boot from close range.

Rasiak and Lallana countered swiftly. Finished with a fierce Rasiak shot from distance, well saved.

Harding then charged forward from left to middle, before switching play to Lallana on the right.
Lallana cut inside and hit another low shot on target. Saved.

Murty intercepted a throw from the keeper, and immediately stood the ball up at the far post for Rasiak to score with a header.

Were Saints good, or Hearts poor? Or was it a little bit of both? I don't know.
Reckon QPR on Saturday will throw some light on it.

Just posted on the friendlies thread. Hearts drew 0-0 at Plymouth the other night. So encouraging stuff.

Hearts were probably tired after the runaround Saints gave them at the weekend.
And Plymouth still couldn't beat em!

QPR certainly threw some light on it. We expected to be asked a few questions - not interrogated!

Looking forward to Tuesday.

Hearts was a good game for the confidence but QPR showed we still have a lot of building work that must be done.

Agreed SFC. AP hopes to bring in 5 or 6 before the end of August, according to a Daily Echo report.
So things looking much better. Have a really good feeling about the way things are being done.

Pleased with Murty, and hopefully Jaidi. Starting to take shape.
